Moving from Xero to SoftLedger? You have two ways to bring your data over. This page explains each option so you can pick the one that fits your timeline, budget, and how much historical detail you want to preserve.
Choose your path
Option | Best for | What it brings over | Cost |
Full-service migration (MMC Convert) | A hands-off, verified conversion that preserves native transaction types | Lists (accounts, contacts, items) + transactions recreated as their real types (bills, invoices, payments, etc.) | Contact us for pricing |
Manual data upload | Full control, or importing from a specific point in time | Your Xero data, exported and mapped into SoftLedger's Excel upload templates | Free, do-it-yourself |
Option 1 — Full-service migration with MMC Convert
For a hands-off, fully managed conversion from Xero, SoftLedger partners with MMC Convert, a migration specialist with over a decade of experience moving businesses between accounting platforms.
What you get:
Your lists and full transaction history brought into SoftLedger.
Transactions recreated as their proper types — bills, invoices, payments, and more — not just journal entries, so your records mirror how they looked in Xero.
A clean, verified transition handled by the MMC Convert team.
This is the best choice if you want the most complete, true-to-source conversion with minimal effort on your side. To arrange a full-service migration, contact your SoftLedger team at support@softledger.com.
Option 2 — Manual data upload (do-it-yourself)
If you prefer to handle the conversion yourself — or want to start from a specific point in time using beginning balances — you can export your data from Xero and map it into SoftLedger's Excel upload templates.
At a high level:
Export your data from Xero. Pull your chart of accounts, contacts (customers and suppliers), and your historical activity using Xero's Journal Report or account transaction exports.
Map it into SoftLedger's upload templates. Move the exported data into the corresponding SoftLedger bulk upload templates, then upload.
This approach gives you the most control and lets you combine beginning balances with historical journals from a chosen date forward.

Which option should I choose?
Want a hands-off, verified migration that preserves bills, invoices, and payments as their original types? Use MMC Convert (Option 1).
Want full control, or need to start from beginning balances at a point in time? Use the manual data upload (Option 2).
You can also combine approaches — for example, entering beginning balances from the start of a period and importing activity from that point forward.
