Uploading Your Structures and Dimensions - Step-by-Step Transcript
Step 1
Uploading your structures and dimensions into SoftLedger
Quickly build and update your enterprise accounting platform by uploading structures and dimensions (via XLSX or API).
Then upload your historical data and you’re all set to start using SoftLedger.
Step 2
Structures like Locations and Accounts, or dimensions such as Cost Centers and Products can be integrated, added, updated and managed manually (1 by 1), XLSX upload or APIs.
These techniques apply to any data (other examples are customers and invoices, vendors and bills, journals and other financial transactions).
Step 3
All structures and dimension uploads are recorded for auditability.
Step 4
Use the dimension picker to filter and select the structure or dimension you wish to upload or review (for the first or any future dimension updates).
After selecting the type (in this case Accounts), left-click the upload button.
Step 5
To upload an XLSX file, select the file and left-click upload. SoftLedger provides template XLSX files for all structures, dimensions and transactions uploads.
Learn everything you need to know about dimension uploads from our support site here.
Step 6
Once complete, navigate to Financial > Accounts to review your upload.
Learn more about Accounts, including adding and updating accounts, here.
Step 7
Dimensions can be selectively used where needed in SoftLedger.
Navigate to Settings > Dimensions.
SoftLedger makes available default standard dimensions (Cost Centers and Products, as well as Jobs – focused on Inventory). You can choose to use/not use these dimensions.
Additionally you can define your own custom dimensions which may be used across the entire platform.
On top of custom dimensions you can define custom fields which are focused and used for specific transaction types (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, customer records). Learn about custom fields here.
Step 8
Left-click and enter the name of your Dimension.
Step 9
Use the on/off switch to activate the new Region dimension for use in data entry and reporting.
Step 10
We will use our Region dimension for customer invoices and sales orders to drive detailed performance reporting and analysis.
Step 11
The Region dimension now appears in our Financial ledger area.
It is immediately ready for you to upload (via XLSX or API) or manually enter via +New.
SoftLedger automatically makes the Region dimension available in views and reports.
